Ethical Climate’s Mediating Role Between Leadership Styles and Counterproductive Work Behaviors in the Field of Education

ABSTRACT

In every workplace environment there are destructive behaviours of some employees which cause a reduction in productivity. Discovering the causes of such counterproductive work behaviour (CWB) is essential. The ultimate objective of this paper is to provide scientific and practical suggestions on the basis that displaying transformational and transactional leadership in the ethical climate would influence CWB. From the aspect of social exchange and ethical climate theories, this paper aims to study CWB from the framework of transformational leadership, transactional leadership and the ethical climate. The research includes 437 educators actively working in Istanbul. The data run by SPSS indicates that the ethical climate has a partial mediation affect between Transformational leadership and CWB, and a full mediating affect between transactional leadership and CWB. The aforementioned correlations are discussed within the framework of iterature; suggestions are made for leaders and further researches
