This article was published in Prof. Dr. Seyyid Hüseyin Nasr's book Traditional Islam in the Modern World (Istanbul, 1989, İnsan Publications, pp. 39-51, trans. Savaş Şafak Barkçın and Hüsamettin Arslan). The book was re-published with the same title by İnsan Publications with Sara Büyükduru's translation. This second edition (Istanbul, 2001, İnsan Publications) has been faithfully followed when citing Nasr's article on Islamic Labour Ethics in İş Ahlakı Dergisi. However, the spelling of the article has been rearranged within the framework of TDK Spelling Guide.
